Learning to play and rehabilitate with the Yalp Sona

The Yalp Sona Interactive dance and play arch at Tylyltylcentrum ‘The White Bird’ in The Hague is the ultimate example of a product used in multiple ways. This center focuses on education, rehabilitation, and development of children with various (severe) disabilities from zero to twenty years of age. Children can play under supervision and learn to play or rehabilitate by doing exercises with music.

Children recognize the music on the Sona

Ryanne Overmeire, team leader SO at Tyltylcentrum De Witte Vogel:

Since the Sona has been installed at the Witte Vogel, the dance and play arch has been used a lot. In collaboration with Yalp and our music therapist, we’ve integrated the music used for the Sona. The same music and movement activities are also offered in the classroom, and because this comes back on our playground, the children recognize it. We can easily adapt these songs when it is, for example, Saint Nicholas, Carnival, or Christmas. It’s nice to see that children recognize the voice and the songs. The children love this!

This device can be used for all children, even with varying levels. Children are always busy with the Sona. They are stimulated by the Sona to move.

Music therapy game on the Yalp Sona

Sabine Dijksterhuis-van Zanten, a music therapist, works at the center and gives music therapy to the children. She sings and plays on the guitar herself, lets the children move. Because of the music’s tension and the adapted songs that perfectly match the target group (modern songs are too difficult), this works perfectly. Now the music therapy is only given a few days a week, and the question arose whether we could also place the songs on the Sona. And so the music therapy game was born.

The reactions are very positive! They see children moving on the music and other groups, who don’t know my songs, come to listen with pleasure. It is an addition to the Sona. I also hear these sounds from multiple angles.

– Sabine Dijksterhuis- Van Zanten

The music therapy game immediately rose to the first position as the most popular game on the Sona. The other games are certainly still being played. Regardless, the diversity and added value ensure that more children can be reached with the excellent knowledge of the people working at the center.

This device can be used for all children, even those at different levels.

In conclusion, Ryanne Overmeire:

This device can be used for all children at different levels. Children are always busy with the Sona. They always come back to push the button and play. They are stimulated by the Sona to move. This is very important for the developmental level. We are delighted with how Yalp is helping to adjust the level, we are very grateful for that, and we think it is very cool!
